Danzig Draven Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=85413
Keystone Greyhounds chartered a bus to Shoreline Star Racetrack, CT in August 2004. I saw Danzig in a crate with shredded paper--yes he is a paper shredder--where he had been for about 1 year recovering from a fractured hock. Labeled as "spooky," "likely not child safe," and "not cat safe," I could not leave CT without knowing if he was a grey to add to my pack. Danzig was placed into the viewing area where he immediately urinated on himself from fear and I knew I could not leave CT without him. Dianne Shadle, my mother and I drove to CT on 9/2/04 for Danzig and other adoptable greys. It took D about 2 weeks to come into the living room, 2 weeks to slip his harness and Dianne and Farrah to find him in my woods, about 2 years to pick up a toy and about 2 days to become a mama's boy. Danzig is a gorgeous black boy that is now our alpha dog and surprisingly enough, a guard boy.

George Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=84168
George was adopted from Project Racing Home on 11/23/05. His actual age is unknown. He was part of a NC raid where over 40 dogs were rescued. I ended up with 3 of them. I went to adopt only Finn that day, however, could not bear to leave poor George in a crate and brought him home for the last 7 months of his life. George was 75% blind and deaf with hind end weakness but his friend Finn helped him during his 7 month stay.
-
Finn Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=84170
Finn; an energetic, playful, handsome boy; was adopted through Keystone Greyhounds on 11/23/2005. Finn developed osteosarcoma in 2008 in his right hip requiring limb amputation and chemotherapy. Finn was a trooper throughout his ordeal but developed another type of cancer in the left hind rather quickly and went to Rainbow Bridge on 8/20/2008

Dalton Dementia Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=85397
I adopted Dalton on 10/16/99 from SEGA when I was doing my internship in TN. She was the alpha dog in the house until her death from osteosarcoma on 5/6/08. Ironically, this was the same day that Finn had his right hind limb amputated from the same disease. Dalton was my Jeckyl and Hyde grey: she was usually sweet and playful but would turn if you petted her too long, touched her while eating or tried to remove her collar--you could see it in her eyes when her disposition was about to change so she never really hurt anyone, and since I was her 3rd home, I just dealt with it. Part of Dalton's liver was removed when she was around 4-5 yrs old, she developed a significant heart murmur around 10 along with IBD and then OSA on 5/6/08. I miss Dalton's wagging tail and smile when coming into the house, however, I do not miss having to pad her room from her inappropriate urinations.

Mr. Playboy Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=85409
"Impossible Dream," otherwise known as Playboy went to Rainbow Bridge on 6/25/10. PB was a gentle, stoic black boy with a distinctive half-prance, half-run gait. He is still a top stud dog and his legacy will live on in his many offspring which he has undoubtedly imbibed with his graceful, fun-loving spirit. It is quite difficult to not see his happy face and erect ears upon entering the house or hear his nail biting at night. I am sure he is with little Diddle now and that she is kissing his face like she always did.

Suzie Venator
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=86990
Suzie (Firegazer), our 11 year old brindle female greyhound, was adopted from Greyhound Friends of NJ in Hillsborough NJ on April 24, 2000. She lived happily together with our red fawn male greyhound Geno for over 9 years.
We will miss Suzie very much and will greatly treasure our remaining time with Geno.

-
Pagan Digastricus Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=92781
I adopted Pagan, who was named after a fav cow, on March 5, 1996. She was my first grey and I only had her for a short 3.5 years. Pagan struggled with IBD her entire life and was a frequent visitor to U of Penn's ICU. She finally succumbed to a mast cell tumor and lymphosarcoma that was not chemo responsive at the start of my internship at U of TN. She definitely started my grey addiction and as my thigh tat memorial to her states, is my "First, Last, Always."
-
Stretch Plissken Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=92785
I adopted Stretch on 12/19/1996 and he was my first male grey. Stretch loved to play with multiple squeaky stuffies at once, poop on bushes, drink my soymilk and weighed a thin 96# during his youth. Stretch acquired multiple problems over the years, most notably cancer of the right eye that required removal--which is ironic as his middle name is from Snake Plissken in Escape from NY who had a patch over his left eye--and liver cancer that he succumbed to two days before my bday at Greyhounds Reach the Beach in Dewey.

Geno
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=101119
Geno was a gentle and most loyal friend for almost 10 years. His passing was a blessing to relieve his pain from leg cancer. Both he and Suzie are now on the Rainbow Bridge eagerly awaiting our reunion.

Parradiddle Deaven
/Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=150&Id=109795
Parradiddle was born with a severe form of the congenital condition known as megaesophagus. Luckily she was rescued by my friend and president of Plain and Fancy Rescue, Linda, before she was killed by her breeder. She may have been a pint-sized Great Dane that could walk under her Dane sister Sassy, but what she lacked in size she made up for with her HUGE heart. Diddle stayed with me in the clinic as she required feedings every 2 hours and constant monitoring because even the smallest morsel of anything other than gruel would cause her to regurgitate, including plain water. Everyone that knew Diddle knows how special she was--she loved all creatures, placed toys in front of patients and even moved her bed in front of them to keep them company. Diddle was always happy and never knew that her chronic regurgitation, despite all efforts on our part, was not normal. We knew that Diddle would never live a long life due to her illness, but we are just lucky that we were able to care for her as long as we did. I am sure Diddle is at the Bridge with Playboy and Rummy kissing them like she always did and making friends with the rest of my fallen critters.
